Why have a custom Real Estate website? Part 2.

June 30th, 2007 by Bud

As I had mentioned in a previous post it is important to have a real estate website that differentiates you and your firm from the myriads of other template driven sites that abound on the network. One of the drawbacks of such an approach is that most real estate professionals are not web designers, and what they think look good or what they think will be easy to navigate turns out to be a disaster and many people bounce out of the site as soon as they view a page or two.

This is where a good site designer comes in. It also is a shame that some of the most respected people in real estate technology have some of the worst websites ever conceived by man or woman! At the risk of being called a heretic I will mention Saul Klein, the Internet Crusader, as he calls himself, as having one heck of a poorly designed personal website and template driven blog.

If you are looking for well laid out easy to navigate sites, try interviewing several design firms, especially ones that do more than web design. You are trying to build a brand, not just throw some fancy graphics on a screen. Fancy graphics don’t sell properties, a professional consistent brand does. Using this approach you can get electronic and print media to present a unified message. One with a professional touch. Yes it might cost more up front, but you will reap rewards in the end. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that someone can look at your business card, am agency sign, an email and know that they have all come from the same place.

Take the time to have a vision, then do not get bogged down in details. Have the design firm come up with several designs and allow them to do what they do best. You will be better in the end for it!
