Do Blogs Help Sell Real Estate?
With so many real estate sites on the world wide web, many are trying to find a way to differentiate themselves. Blogging is the new buzzword with blogs being set up on agent sites for many different reasons. Some of these Blogs are used as Content Management Software (CMS) where their sole purpose is to keep track of the reports, files and news that solely relate to Real Estate or directly to the agents business. Some are personal diaries where the agent or multiple agents use it to talk about family, friends, gatherings or any other topic that seems of interest to the poster. Some of the Blogs are used to post information about in-house listings. I am wondering to myself, as I write this, which one of these if any is more effective than the others at attracting attention to the business at hand, Real Estate!
I do not personally have an answer to this question, but I do know that blogging on Real Estate sites has increased exponentially in just the past year. There are several inherent problems with Blogs on company sites; Who is going to monitor the posters entries? What guidelines are you going to set up as to what is an acceptable topic for discussion? Who will or will you moderate the comments received?
There is a fine line between open and honest discussions about topical items and becoming offensive or argumentative. When do you know if you have crossed the line?
I write about what I know, or at least think I know. As we move forward I am hoping that my associates will also write about what they know. The more information you can share, usually, results in a better relationship with us and with out clients and customers.

Very interesting point - being a blogger yourself, would you recommend it to others with sites in real estate?

There are a couple of ways to approach this assuming you are thinking of allowing blogging. Agent blogs; those appearing on agent sites, Agency blogs; a single blog with multiple authors. They both seem to work as the key is keep clients, customers and potential customers coming back to your site.
In a future post I will discuss some of the issues surrounding both methods of allowing blogs. If nothing else, try it for yourself and you will soon see increasing traffic on your website.
